Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, in collaboration with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), has donated essential cleaning equipment and tricycles to the Kroo Bay Community to bolster waste management efforts.

The donation includes shovels, rakes, boots, face masks, gloves, and two motorized tricycles. As part of the initiative, six local youths will receive training to operate the tricycles. To ensure sustainability, residents will contribute a nominal fee for waste collection, with the proceeds designated for tricycle maintenance.

During the handover ceremony, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr emphasized the importance of using the equipment exclusively for waste management. She also called on community leaders and residents to take action against illegal dumping and unauthorized land reclamation.

This donation comes ahead of the Freetown City Council’s upcoming #DortiMusGo campaign, set to launch with a large-scale city cleanup in mid-May. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to improve sanitation through new waste management regulations.
