Banjul – The Gambia: Thursday 19th December 2024. While on a Sister-City visit to the city of Kanifing, the Freetown city Mayor formed part of the delegation that accompined the vice President of The Gambia to, Muhammad Jallow to meet with Senegal’s Prime Minister as he toured the Senegalese school in The Gambia.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr was in The Gambia at the invitation of Mayor Talib Bensouda, both as the Mayor of Freetown, sister city to Kanifing Municipality, and in her capacity as C40 Cities Co-Chair. According to Mayor Aki-Sawyerr, “i was privileged to this afternoon accompany the Gambian Vice President H. E. Muhammad B. S. Jallow, Mayor Talib Bensouda and other state officials on Prime Minister Sonko’s tour of the Senegalese school in the Gambia.”
Further, she stated that “it was an absolute honor to meet the Prime Minister of Senegal, H.E. Ousmane Sonko, during his visit to the Gambia today.”
Additionally, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr, reported that she was delighted to have met with the residents of Kanifing, as she conveyed warm sentiments from the citizens of Freetown. Kanifing is home to a very large section of Sierra Leoneans who domicile in The Gambia.
Finally, the Mayor noted that she was “impressive to see pupils from 16 countries, mostly African, in their traditional costumes. And inspiring to hear Prime Minister Sonko encourage them to strive for excellence. Our young people are the future of Africa.”
