Everyone Can Use A Shelter, Sometimes
Today I see people running for shelter. The rain is heavy and the drops are large. They hurt when they strike my skin. There was a song many years ago, “Raindrops keep falling on my head… So I just did some talking to the sun, and I said I didn’t like the way he got things done, sleeping on the job, those raindrops keep falling on my head…”
Sometimes, maybe often, we don’t like the way things are happening. There is too much rain, or too much pain, or too little support, and not enough… And I don’t like the way things are going, I feel like I have no control, no say in the events and matters at hand.
I watch people run for shelter, looking for a hiding place, and safety in the unfolding storm.
In times like these I hear the scriptures give me hope and a sheltering peace: “God is a refuge and strength, a very present help in time of need” (Ps. 46:1) and again, “He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge.” (Ps.91:4)
As our Creator, God knows how we function, he knows our weaknesses, and frailties, and he gladly provides for those who seek him, call upon him, and come to him in faith and obedience. He will be “a shelter in the time of storm “.
Thanks for listening,
