On Sunday, April 27, 2025, personnel from the Mile 91 Police Division arrested two individuals and seized 16 bundles of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa in Makondu village, Yoni Mabanta Chiefdom, Northern District of Tonkolili.
Acting on intelligence and under the supervision of Local Unit Commander, Superintendent Ishmael Koroma, a police team led by DSP Sao Conteh conducted the operation at approximately 10:30 a.m. The suspects, identified as Ya Makapr Kamara (female) and Aiah Abu Conteh (male), were apprehended after being found in possession of the cannabis without lawful authority.
The arrests occurred around 9:00 a.m. in Makondu village. Following their apprehension, voluntary caution and interview statements were obtained from both suspects. They have since been placed in custody as part of the ongoing investigation, which has been escalated to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) Headquarters at Hastings in Freetown.
The Local Unit Commander reaffirmed his commitment to eradicating criminal activities and ensuring public safety within the operational areas.
