The Parliamentary Committee on Tourism and Cultural Affairs praised Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis for her accomplishments during her brief tenure and pledged their support for her vision for the future of the sector.
The committee convened with the Minister and her team in Parliament to discuss the ministry’s progress and strategize upcoming initiatives. Hon. Tom Issic Tucker, Chairman of the committee and moderator of the meeting, underscored the importance of fostering a strong relationship between the Ministry and Parliament to enhance oversight responsibilities.
Minister Tunis expressed her gratitude for the committee’s willingness to collaborate, presenting a comprehensive overview of the Ministry’s current status. She highlighted key achievements, challenges faced, and future strategies, while acknowledging the crucial role of the Ministry staff and agency personnel in driving progress.
The meeting served as a vital platform to strengthen cooperation between the legislative and executive branches, particularly in relation to developing Sierra Leone’s tourism sector.
Attendees included prominent figures from the Ministry and its affiliated agencies, such as Permanent Secretary Edward Kwame Yankson, Director of Culture Creativity and Innovation Foday Jalloh, and Director of Tourism Travel and Exchange Programs Mohamed Jalloh. Also present were General Manager of the National Tourist Board Fatmata Carew, as well as Chairperson and Admin Manager of the Monuments and Relics Commission Joseph Kaifala and Ann Marie Kamara, respectively. Senior staff members from the Ministry, the Monuments and Relics Commission, the National Tourist Board, and the Sierra Leone National and Railway Museums were also in attendance.
