On October 15, 2025, Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah convened with Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Madam Kenyeh Barlay, in her Tower Hill office in Freetown to strategize for this year’s National Civic Festival.
The meeting aimed to transform last year’s partnership into a shared leadership model. Minister Barlay characterized the discussions as a continuation and expansion of their previous collaborative efforts. Minister Bah highlighted the Civic Festival as a vital platform for citizens to engage directly with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to gain insight into government achievements.
The festival is slated for December and will revolve around the central theme “SaloneBigPassWeAll.” Minister Bah noted that the event will allow MDAs, including MoPED, to present their mandates, accomplishments, and impact to hundreds of attendees. He emphasized the importance of mobilizing resources from government, the private sector, and development partners to ensure effective communication of MDAs’ work to the public. “It’s about demonstrating to the people what has been accomplished on their behalf,” he stated.
Minister Barlay expressed her full support for the initiative, committing to enhance collaboration with development partners, with a focus on resource mobilization and early preparation for MDAs. Both ministers agreed to conduct regular co-planning meetings to ensure the success of the Civic Festival. Minister Bah underscored the need for inclusivity, stating, “Everyone should feel that they have something significant to showcase, making their work appealing and understandable to the public.”
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both ministries affirming their commitment to making the 2025 Civic Festival a pivotal milestone in fostering government-citizen engagement and advancing national development.
