Sierra Leone’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Henry Musa Kpaka, has announced the launch of a new radio station aimed at supporting the nation’s rural farmers. Named Rural Farmers Radio, the station will operate on the frequency 98.9 FM, positioning itself as the leading traditional media outlet for agricultural information in the country.
In a statement to its partners, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) expressed enthusiasm for this initiative, which is part of the broader Feed Salone program. This initiative seeks to improve agricultural production and productivity among local farmers.
The ministry highlighted its commitment to educating stakeholders within the agricultural sector through this new platform, which is designed to address the specific needs of rural communities. MAFS also extended its appreciation to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Africell Sierra Leone for their vital support in bringing this project to fruition.
Currently, testing transmissions are underway, and the ministry encourages all stakeholders to tune in for updates and educational content specifically tailored for rural farmers.
