Ministry of Gender and African Union Collaborate to Enhance Child Protection Efforts

The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, in collaboration with the African Union (AU) and various international development organizations, held a strategic meeting aimed at addressing critical child protection issues across the nation. The discussions centered on formulating actionable solutions to combat harmful practices, including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and other violations of children’s rights.

Madam Boi-Jeneh Jalloh, Chairperson of the Child Rights Coalition, underscored the coalition’s ongoing commitment to drafting the Child Rights Act and collaborating with the Ministry to implement effective interventions to protect vulnerable children. Victoria Squire from Save the Children presented programs that offer psychosocial support, advocacy, and community capacity-building initiatives. Additionally, representatives from AHF discussed their initiatives, including the Girls Act and Young People’s Program, which focus on adolescent health and empowerment.

World Vision and Joining Forces representatives emphasized their dedication to community-based approaches in tackling these pressing issues. The meeting concluded with a series of actionable recommendations and strategic roadmaps aimed at strengthening the national child protection framework and enhancing collaboration with the AU, ensuring a lasting impact for children in Sierra Leone.
