The Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation (MoCTI) recently convened a Focus Group Discussion to engage stakeholders on Sierra Leone’s draft National Data Governance Strategy.

The primary goal of the discussion was to collect feedback on the proposed strategy and evaluate the current data ecosystem within government institutions and key sectors. The event brought together representatives from government, civil society, academia, technology, media, and the private sector, all dedicated to exploring effective data governance that safeguards citizens’ rights, empowers institutions, and fosters national development.

This collaborative session provided a platform for stakeholders to share insights on the management, use, and protection of data within public systems. MoCTI expressed gratitude to all participants for their contributions and for challenging existing assumptions.

As Sierra Leone embarks on its digital transformation journey, this strategy is poised to serve as a foundational element, ensuring that emerging digital systems are centered on people, ethical considerations, and effective practices.
