Freetown, June 10, 2025 — A Moroccan delegation met with the National Commission for Children (NCC) in Freetown to explore strategies for strengthening child protection in Sierra Leone. The visit, organized by the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs in collaboration with the Children’s Directorate, was led by Professor Ghizlane Banjellovn.
The NCC welcomed the Moroccan team, which included Assistant Directors Laura Kororma and Aminata Kargbo. During the meeting at NCC headquarters, participants exchanged ideas and practical solutions to address child protection challenges. Deputy Commissioner Henry Mustapha Sheku emphasized the NCC’s commitment to promoting children’s rights, highlighting issues such as abuse, domestic violence, and online risks. He stressed the importance of collaboration and educating children about their rights.
Professor Banjellovn shared insights on Morocco’s approach to child involvement in national discussions, notably through initiatives like the Children’s Parliament. She underscored the significance of incorporating mental health education and support into child protection frameworks.
Commissioner Joyce Wuyah Tejan-Kella expressed gratitude for the delegation’s visit, describing it as timely and meaningful. She reaffirmed the NCC’s dedication to enhancing child welfare through both local and international partnerships.
The meeting concluded with discussions on potential collaborative efforts, including knowledge sharing, policy improvement, and joint programs. The Moroccan delegation presented a symbolic gift to Commissioner Tejan-Kella, representing a shared commitment to child welfare between the two nations.
