In a deeply emotional courtroom scene at Pademba Road Court No. 1, Kadiatu Carew testified against her son, Santige Kamara, who is accused of murdering his brother, Francis Amara Kanneh. The hearing, presided over by Magistrate Sahr Kekura, highlighted the tragic circumstances surrounding the case.

Kamara faces murder charges under Section 1 of the Offenses Against the Person Act of 1861, as amended by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act of 2021 (Act No. 6 of 2022). According to the prosecution, the alleged crime took place on January 19, 2025, at 555 Lorry Park in the Waterloo area of Freetown.

During her testimony, Carew, a businesswoman, recounted the events leading up to the tragedy. She revealed that Kanneh had been unwell when Kamara visited him earlier that day. After a brief visit, Kamara left, and Carew continued with her daily activities. Later that evening, she received a call from an unknown number informing her of her son’s death. In disbelief, she reached out to her eldest brother, Abu White, who confirmed that Kanneh’s body had been taken to the mortuary.

Shortly thereafter, police took Carew to the Ross Road Police Station for questioning before escorting her to the mortuary, where she was finally able to identify her son’s remains.

The court proceedings are set to continue on March 14, 2025, as investigations into the incident remain ongoing. This case has captured public attention, emphasizing the profound human tragedy of a mother compelled to testify against her own son.
