In a significant initiative to elevate healthcare standards, the Minister of Health, alongside WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, and various local and international partners, has unveiled the ‘Health Train’ campaign 2025 in Moyamba District. This innovative campaign aims to assess the quality of health services and establish new standards for improved healthcare delivery using a life-stages approach.
The campaign seeks to highlight health service delivery across all districts, with Moyamba being the inaugural stop. Its primary objectives include evaluating the current services provided by health facilities, collaborating with the District Health Management Team, and engaging local leaders to identify potential improvements.
The first stop of the Health Train was the Moyamba Government Hospital, where Dr. Demby and his team expressed their admiration for the extensive range of services available. The hospital provides a comprehensive array of care, including mental health services with a specialist on call, a dental clinic, nutrition services, eye care, a pediatric center, an outpatient unit, and a well-stocked drug store offering essential medical supplies. The WHO Country Representative, Dr. George Ameh, commended the hospital, referring to it as a “district plus” hospital. Minister of Health Dr. Austin Demby emphasized that Moyamba Government Hospital exemplifies the quality of services envisioned for health facilities across the nation.
Moreover, plans are underway for an ultra-modern 100-bed hospital in Moyamba Town, which, upon completion, will serve as a complementary referral facility catering to the healthcare needs of over 350,000 residents in the region. During their visit, Minister Demby and his delegation were given a guided tour of the hospital to assess the services rendered, identify opportunities for enhancement, recognize existing gaps, and explore potential solutions.
The residents of Moyamba have displayed overwhelming enthusiasm for this transformative initiative, voicing their commitment to collaborate with the Government, the Ministry of Health, and partners to advance healthcare for the district.
