The Ministry of Health and Sanitation, through the National Public Health Agency, has confirmed 100 additional Mpox cases in Sierra Leone, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 961 as of Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Current reports indicate that there are 663 active cases, with 289 individuals having recovered from the illness. Unfortunately, two additional deaths have been reported, raising the total fatalities to nine. The gender breakdown shows a higher infection rate among males, with 517 confirmed cases compared to 444 among females.

The Western Urban Area remains the most affected district, reporting 734 cases, followed by the Western Rural Area with 173 cases. Other districts with new cases include Bombali (18), Kenema (4), Karene (1), and Kono (7). Notably, several districts, such as Bonthe, Falaba, Kailahun, and Koinadugu, have not registered any verified cases.

Health experts emphasize the importance of early detection, isolation, and community awareness in curbing the outbreak. The public is urged to remain vigilant, report suspected cases, and adhere to recommended health guidelines.

Citizens are encouraged to contact the national toll-free number 117 for any suspected cases or emergencies. The government is actively monitoring the situation and collaborating with international health partners to mitigate the spread and impact of the disease.
