Geneva, Switzerland, Monday, October 6, 2025 – In the wake of the symbolic opening of the Plenary Session at the 76th Session of the UNHCR Executive Committee, Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Dr. Lansana Gberie and his staff at the Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone in Geneva.

During the meeting, the two leaders held productive discussions focused on Sierra Leone’s various legislative and legal frameworks aimed at providing essential services to displaced individuals, refugees, and stateless persons. They also reviewed broader humanitarian priorities under the UNHCR’s mandate, highlighting the need for effective coordination between NaCSA and the Permanent Mission to advance Sierra Leone’s humanitarian agenda.

Ambassador Ndomahina is currently participating in the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner (ExCom) 2025 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, where he is set to address critical issues concerning the international protection of refugees and Sierra Leone’s ongoing humanitarian response efforts. His involvement underscores the country’s proactive stance in global discussions surrounding refugee welfare, protection, and reintegration.

The Government of Sierra Leone, led by President Julius Maada Bio, remains steadfast in its commitment to refugee protection and community development. This dedication is evident in the implementation of the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF) and its alignment with the Global Compact on Refugees and NaCSA’s National Strategic Development Plan.

Commissioner Ndomahina is expected to deliver a statement reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing community development, strengthening social protection, and supporting refugees and returnees in Sierra Leone. As the government body representing UNHCR’s mandate in the country, NaCSA plays a crucial role in fostering national and international partnerships for sustainable humanitarian action.
