National Fire Force Reports 201 Fire Incidents in First Quarter of 2025

The Sierra Leone National Fire Force has reported a total of 201 fire incidents nationwide from January 1 to March 31, 2025, along with six non-firefighting rescue operations conducted in the Western Region. This information was detailed in an official report submitted to the Honorable Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Morie Lengor Esq.

The report outlines the various structures affected by these incidents across the country. The breakdown shows that fire incidents impacted numerous properties, including 110 houses, two schools, 14 vehicles, four transformers, seven electrical poles, 11 shops, four stores, four generators, 10 ground covers, six trees, two bushes, 15 dustbins, two salons, two garages, and eight facilities.

Monthly statistics reveal a concerning trend in fire incidents. In January, there were 35 incidents reported in the Western Region, 10 in the Southern Region, three in the Northern East Region, two in the North West Region, and eight in the Eastern Region. February saw a rise with 38 incidents in the Western Region, 12 in the Southern Region, two in the Northern East Region, two in the North West Region, and 16 in the Eastern Region.

March recorded the highest number of fire incidents, totaling 74 nationwide. The Western Region accounted for 46 incidents, followed by 13 in the Southern Region, four in the Northern East Region, three in the North West Region, and eight in the Eastern Region. In comparison, February had 70 incidents, and January had 57.

The increase in incidents during March highlights an urgent need for community awareness and prevention measures to address fire safety issues throughout the country.
