Benguma, Sierra Leone In a significant operation on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the Joint Special Unit of the National Taskforce for Drug and Substance Abuse intercepted approximately 118 kilograms of dried leaves believed to be Cannabis Sativa during a raid in the Benguma area.

This successful seizure highlights the intensified efforts of the National Taskforce to combat the growing issue of illegal drug trafficking in the region. The multi-agency unit, composed of personnel from various law enforcement and security agencies, has been actively working to dismantle drug trafficking networks that have been increasingly associated with rising crime rates and the adverse effects of substance abuse, particularly among the youth.

Officials involved in the operation have pledged to maintain a robust crackdown on the illegal drug trade, emphasizing their commitment to eradicating the elements responsible for the importation and distribution of harmful substances. The taskforce has specifically targeted not only cannabis but also the synthetic drug known as ‘Kush,’ which government authorities have classified as a national emergency due to its dangerous implications.

The National Taskforce’s continued vigilance reflects a broader strategy to enhance public safety and protect communities from the threats posed by illegal drugs.
