In a significant advancement for Sierra Leone’s legal and economic landscape, Deputy Minister of Justice Madam Saptieu Saccoh has unveiled new Intellectual Property (IP) regulations in the House of Parliament. This initiative aims to strengthen the protection of local creators and businesses while fostering innovation across the nation.
The proposed regulations encompass a comprehensive range of intellectual property rights, including copyrights, patents, industrial designs, and trademarks. By safeguarding these rights, the government seeks to empower Sierra Leoneans and position the country as a competitive player in the global economy.
Accompanied by Ms. Martina Egbenda, Sierra Leone’s Administrator and Registrar General, Madam Saccoh underscored the importance of this new legal framework in promoting domestic innovation and attracting international investment. She specifically pointed out key sectors poised to benefit from these regulations, including technology, entertainment, and manufacturing.
These regulations represent Sierra Leone’s commitment to recognizing the global economy’s dependence on intellectual property. By cultivating an environment that supports the growth of the arts, technology, and business sectors, the government aims to enhance the country’s economic development and cultural richness.
