Musa Joseph Sesay, Human Resources Officer of Bloom Bank Sierra Leone Limited, and student Joshua Gbanyah appeared before Principal Magistrate Shar Kekura at the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on multiple charges, including larceny by servant, obtaining money by false pretence, and document forgery.
The allegations arise from an ongoing investigation into fraudulent activities within Bloom Bank. According to the indictment, the offenses occurred between January 2, 2023, and March 31, 2024. Mr. Sesay is accused of misappropriating funds intended for the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).
Further details reveal that Mr. Gbanyah allegedly facilitated a scheme involving the payment of NLe 619,000 to an individual posing as an EDSA agent. It is also claimed that he forged documents from the College of Digital Excellence (CODE), including a false statement of results.
Chief Internal Auditor of Bloom Bank Africa, Ernest Ohue, provided testimony indicating that an EDSA meter was disconnected and removed on December 6, 2023, due to unpaid electricity credit linked to the alleged fraudulent activities.
Investigations revealed that electronic vouchers amounting to NLe 619,000, presented as proof of payment, have been deemed fraudulent by EDSA.
The court proceedings have been adjourned and are scheduled to continue on May 16, 2025, for further testimonies.
