Freetown, Sierra Leone – At a recent handover ceremony held at the Bintumani Conference Hall, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) awarded the National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA) for its outstanding service delivery in the downstream petroleum sector over the past six years.

Former SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla commended NPRA’s Director General, Brima Baluwa Koroma, and his dedicated team for their transparency and responsiveness to critical concerns raised by journalists, media practitioners, bloggers, and civil society organizations during quarterly press conferences. Nasralla emphasized that Baluwa Koroma’s commitment to open and constructive dialogue has significantly enhanced ethical journalism within the print and electronic media.

Abu Bakar Kargbo, also known as Fadda Bakish, a senior journalist at SLAJ, presented the award to NPRA management and staff, praising their exceptional service and the unprecedented reforms they have undertaken in a challenging industry. He reiterated the new SLAJ leadership’s commitment to constructive engagement with NPRA and other ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to strengthen the media landscape in Sierra Leone.

In response, Director General Baluwa Koroma expressed his gratitude for SLAJ’s recognition, highlighting its significance in motivating NPRA to enhance its performance under new mandates. He noted that the award aligns with the people-centered policies embedded in the NPRA’s Act of 2025.

“This excellence in service delivery award is dedicated to His Excellency, Retired Brigadier President Julius Maada Bio, the Government of Sierra Leone, and the entire NPRA team,” Baluwa Koroma stated. He acknowledged the government’s supportive policies, which have positively influenced the market, and vowed to continue addressing the persistent challenges within the industry.

Baluwa Koroma urged journalists across the country to embrace development journalism, emphasizing its importance for national interest and progress.
