The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has officially closed Dangote Cement (SL) Ltd as of August 25, 2025, due to an outstanding Freight Levy debt of $653,300, which has remained unpaid since 2020. This action reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance tax compliance and secure revenue for national development.
The closure was executed by the NRA’s Non-Tax Revenue Department, led by Commissioner Tom Vandy, along with the Deputy Commissioner of NTR and the Domestic Tax Department Compliance unit. The enforcement included sealing off the company’s Administrative Office, Control Room, and Production Room, effectively barring access to all facilities.
This decisive measure underscores the NRA’s commitment to holding businesses accountable for their tax obligations and recovering overdue revenues from defaulters, a move critical for maintaining fiscal integrity in the country.
