NRA Closes Diakem Investment for Unpaid Debt of Le162,000

By Joseph Momoh, D.S. Reporter

The Non-Tax Revenue Department of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) has sealed the business premises of Diakem Investment, located at 26 Adelaide Street in Freetown, due to an outstanding non-tax revenue debt of Le162,053.00.

This enforcement action was initiated after the company failed to address its payment obligations for ISP/WIMAX license fees. A formal Notice of Intention to Seal Business Premises was issued, citing Section 12 (e & f) of the Finance Act, 2019, which authorizes the NRA to seal off business premises within 48 hours of notification for non-compliance.

The notice specifies that the debt is related solely to unpaid ISP/WIMAX license fees. In addition to the sealing of Diakem Investment, the NRA indicated that further recovery measures could be pursued under the relevant legal provisions. These may include publication of the directors’ names in the Gazette and other media, pursuing court action, and barring company representatives from leaving Sierra Leone.

The NRA has emphasized its commitment to enforcing compliance and ensuring the recovery of government revenue, in line with the provisions of the Finance Act, 2019.

To resolve the matter, the notice provides options for payment via commercial bank transfer to the Bank of Sierra Leone, with specific account details included for reference.
