The National Revenue Authority (NRA) welcomed a group of students from the Nigerian Defence College (NDC) as part of their study tour in Sierra Leone, focusing on the extractive industry’s impact on national development. Led by Air Commodore E.O. Oludicun, the delegation aimed to understand how revenues from the extractive sector fuel the country’s economic growth and the role of the Extractive Industry Revenue Unit (EIRU) in this process.
Dora N. Tucker, Director of Human Resources at the NRA, represented the Commissioner General and emphasized the enduring relationship between Nigeria and Sierra Leone. She acknowledged the cultural bonds and the support given by Nigerians during Sierra Leone’s civil war.
During the visit, Abu B. Tarawalie, Assistant Commissioner of the EIRU, provided a comprehensive overview of the NRA’s tax collection, royalties, and levies from mining operations. He highlighted the vital role of revenues from the extractive sector in fostering Sierra Leone’s economic development.
This engagement offered NDC students valuable insights into the institutional frameworks that the NRA employs to manage natural resource revenues, thereby enhancing their understanding of governance and development within the region.
