Episode 20- Slow Progress Shows APC needs a fairless Leadership to Win 2028.
By Dr Doma
The Tripartite process was meant to restore trust after the disputed 2023 elections.
Instead, nearly two years on it has been slowed by hesitation, political games, and half-hearted proposals — including a vague idea of “power sharing” that solves nothing.
The APC has not been idle. From Dr. Samura Kamara’s firm stand, even taking issues to the PPRC to the recent handover of chief negotiator duties to Dr. Kaifala Marah, the party has tried to keep the process alive.
But let’s be honest: personnel changes will not matter if the leadership style stays soft when the ruling party is playing hard.
This is why Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr’s role has been so striking.
At the September 11th Tripartite Steering Committee meeting, she didn’t just sit quietly.
She pressed for transparency: proper agendas, minutes and presentations.
She reminded the Committee of its duty to provide oversight, not to rubber-stamp delays.
And she demanded time for real debate, not stage-managed discussions.
Her intervention was so forceful that even the Attorney-General, who chaired the session, acknowledged it positively. That moment revealed something important: courage earns respect, even from opponents.
APC delegates should reflect on this.
The road to 2028 will not be won on goodwill alone. The ruling party has already shown its tactics, slow progress, distractions and attempts to divide.
What APC needs is leadership that is credible, loyal but above all fearless. Leaders who can check power, insist on accountability and refuse to be silenced.
Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has shown those qualities in the Tripartite process.
She has been tough without being reckless, principled without being naïve.
And if this is the resilience required just to keep a committee honest, imagine what it will take to win a national election in 2028.
This is bigger than politics. It’s about whether APC can rise to the challenge of history with leaders who don’t just speak of courage but demonstrate it in real time.
