Concerns are escalating regarding Councillor Ibrahim Owen Bangura’s involvement in a land dispute in Grassfield, Tokeh, especially given his status as a key suspect in an ongoing murder investigation.
The councillor was arrested recently alongside ten others following a violent altercation that resulted in the death of a young man. However, he has reportedly been released by the Lumley Police Division, while the remaining suspects remain in custody.
New allegations indicate that Councillor Bangura has been interfering with witnesses and making unauthorized visits to the disputed site, despite a court injunction issued by Justice Amy Wright. Witnesses claim he has issued threats and attempted to sway testimonies, raising serious concerns about potential obstruction of justice.
The circumstances surrounding his release while other suspects are still detained have ignited public outrage, with many speculating that political influence may have played a role in the decision. Critics emphasize that his ongoing presence at the site may intimidate witnesses and jeopardize the integrity of the investigation.
Authorities have yet to provide an official explanation for his release, further fueling suspicions of preferential treatment. The public is calling for law enforcement and the judiciary to ensure a fair and transparent process, highlighting the urgent need for accountability in a case that has already resulted in a tragic loss of life.
