PAC TARGET FCC OVER REVENUE MISMANAGEMENT

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has launched an investigation into the Freetown City Council (FCC) over allegations of revenue mismanagement on Tuesday, August 27th, 2024.

According to sources, the PAC has uncovered discrepancies in the council’s financial records, including the collection of an estimated one billion Leones from market dues and tolls, with only 800 million old Leones being deposited into the National Revenue Authority (NRA).

Deputy Speaker Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, who chairs the PAC, accused tax collectors within the FCC of using unauthorized receipt books and tickets to siphon off market taxes for personal gain.

The investigation follows revelations in the Auditor General’s Reports for 2021 and 2022, which highlighted management and accountability lapses within the council. The PAC has vowed to clamp down on these practices and ensure that public funds are properly accounted for and used for their intended purposes.
