On November 20, 2024, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA), in collaboration with its partners, held a panel discussion titled “Wildlife Conservation and Communities” as part of the ongoing Tourism for All Campaign. The event aimed to address challenges in environmental conservation and eco-tourism, bringing together representatives from the National Tourist Board, Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and the Conservation Society Sierra Leone.
Panelists explored solutions to barriers hindering wildlife conservation, emphasizing the benefits to communities and the potential for sustainable eco-tourism growth in Sierra Leone. They proposed actionable strategies and a roadmap to promote sustainable environmental practices. Permanent Secretary Edward Kwame Yankson underscored the importance of involving government, partners, and community stakeholders in efforts to protect wildlife and the environment. Director of Tourism Mohamed Jalloh highlighted the critical benefits of environmental preservation and urged communities to refrain from destructive practices.
Chaired by NTB’s Product Development Officer Bashiru Koroma and moderated by Senior Tourist Officer Tamba S. Bundor, the event marked a significant step forward in advancing wildlife conservation and eco-tourism development in Sierra Leone.
