Residents of Koidu City are on edge after a second thunder strike hit the area this evening, just days after a devastating thunderstorm resulted in three fatalities in the broader Kono District.
Eyewitnesses described a frightening scene: a bright flash in the sky was quickly followed by a loud explosion that rattled homes and buildings. While no casualties have been confirmed from this latest incident, the community’s anxiety remains palpable.
“People are living in fear. We need answers and protection,” stated a concerned resident, echoing the sentiments of many in the area. The repeated thunder strikes have led traditional leaders to suggest that these phenomena may warrant a deeper spiritual investigation. Some have even proposed involving “Ariyogbo Boss,” a spiritual authority in the community, to help decipher the underlying causes.
Community members are urging the government, weather officials, and traditional authorities to take immediate action, with many believing these events go beyond normal weather patterns. Authorities have advised the public to seek shelter indoors during storms and to follow safety guidelines as investigations continue.
This evening’s thunder strike follows a tragic storm that struck Kono District on Tuesday, May 13. That storm, marked by heavy rainfall, intense thunder, and vivid lightning, led to the tragic deaths of three individuals in the Tankoro area who were struck by lightning while outdoors around 7:00 PM. Local authorities and traditional leaders had already called for “Ariyogbo,” the spiritual investigator of Kono, to examine the circumstances surrounding that deadly storm.
