On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Parliament of Sierra Leone continued its deliberations on the speech delivered by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio on August 7, 2025.
During the session, Hon. Brima Mansary from Kenema District praised President Bio as a transformative leader, highlighting the success of the Feed Salone agricultural initiative and notable improvements in infrastructure and education under his administration.
Countering previous remarks, Hon. Ambrose Maada Labby from Bo District articulated the achievements of President Bio, detailing advancements in education through the Free Quality Education program, the expansion of health centers, and initiatives to improve electricity supply and infrastructure.
Hon. Yusuf Mackery, also from Bo District, urged MPs to refrain from divisive rhetoric, commending the government’s strides in road infrastructure and agriculture.
From Kono District, Hon. Sia Mahawa Tommy expressed gratitude to President Bio for his leadership and enumerated various youth and women empowerment projects, including the distribution of motorbikes and fishing boats, as well as support for women-led community initiatives. She called for unity in addressing the national drug crisis.
Hon. Moses Edwin from Bonthe District echoed the positive developments in education, electricity, and agriculture under the current administration.
Hon. Alpha Ben Mansary from Moyamba District advocated for the establishment of district-wide ambulance services and stronger support for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. He also raised concerns regarding cable theft and the state of road networks in Moyamba.
Hon. Idriss Saihid Kamara from the Western Area Rural District emphasized that energy is crucial for development and commended the government’s progress in the energy sector.
Hon. Mariama Zombo from Pujehun District praised the Proportional Representation (PR) system for its role in promoting inclusivity and women’s empowerment, alongside citing infrastructure improvements and enhanced access to clean water.
Conversely, Hon. Abdul Latif Sesay from Port Loko District recognized President Bio’s humility during economic challenges but criticized the government for not fulfilling several development promises. He urged the completion of the 100-bed hospital in Port Loko and called for support for the Port Loko university.
Hon. Ibrahim Barrie from Bombali District highlighted the urgent need for road rehabilitation in Makeni and addressed the rampant drug abuse issue, particularly the use of “kush,” which he deemed a threat to the nation’s workforce.
Hon. Daniel Fona from Tonkolili District criticized the administration for failing to meet its 2018 commitments and urged the government to resolve outstanding examination fees for WAEC, facilitating the timely release of candidates’ results.
Hon. Adama Bangura from Kambia District discussed water and sanitation issues in Mambolo and other communities, advocating for the completion and expansion of water infrastructure projects.
Hon. Alice Taylor Bangura, also from Kambia District, raised concerns about agricultural productivity due to poor road conditions and heavy rainfall. She expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of the Free Quality Education program and warned of the detrimental effects of drug abuse on youth.
Lastly, Hon. Hamidu Holla Mansary from Koinadugu District criticized the state of the Makeni-Kabala road and lamented the lack of focus on northern district infrastructure in the President’s speech. He expressed hope for the Feed Salone program and called for the government to prioritize job creation for youth.
Hon. Abdulai Kamara from Western Area Urban District noted that the opposition APC has played a constructive role in holding the government accountable, urging stronger implementation frameworks to accelerate national development.
