The Parliamentary Committee on Transport and Aviation recently conducted an oversight visit to the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) to evaluate its operations and regulatory compliance within the country’s aviation sector.

Held on January 29, 2026, the visit was part of Parliament’s constitutional role to monitor institutions in its purview. The delegation, led by Committee Chairman Hon. Dickson Momoh Rogers and his deputy, engaged with SLCAA management to obtain direct insights into the Authority’s structure, systems, and operational challenges.

Director General Madam Musayeroh Barrie welcomed the parliamentary team and provided a comprehensive briefing on SLCAA’s mandate and performance. She underscored the Authority’s crucial role in regulating civil aviation, upholding international safety standards, and managing aviation security and economic regulation.

The committee was also given a guided tour of SLCAA’s offices to observe operational workflows and administrative systems firsthand.

At the conclusion of the visit, committee members praised SLCAA for its efforts in promoting aviation safety and maintaining regulatory standards. They expressed their commitment to supporting policies and investments aimed at bolstering the Authority and enhancing the aviation sector. This visit further solidified the collaboration and transparency between Parliament and SLCAA, as both entities pledged to work together to improve safety, efficiency, and public confidence in Sierra Leone’s aviation industry.

Madam Barrie highlighted the recent enactment of the Civil Aviation Act 2023, which has strengthened legal frameworks for the Authority, while also addressing challenges such as limited resources and the ongoing need for capacity building.
