Police are investigating the alleged theft of 96 solar batteries intended for the Makeni Government Hospital, a facility that relies on these batteries for electricity. Reports indicate that the batteries were not stolen by outsiders, but rather by staff members within the hospital.

It is alleged that some of these batteries were sold, and at least one was installed in the home of a staff member, as indicated by information shared in a circulating video. The video claims that police have sealed off the office of the hospital’s Regional Secretary, Mr. Kabia, who is currently in custody along with two other hospital staff members: the chief security officer and a community health officer. The community health officer was reportedly found with six solar batteries. During questioning, this officer allegedly implicated the maintenance officer as the individual responsible for the theft.

Additionally, there are claims that Mr. Kabia misappropriated air conditioners designated for other departments within the hospital.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Mena Police Station in Makeni is leading the case, and it has been reported that some of the stolen batteries have been recovered. Residents of the Makeni district are urging the Ministry of Health to take decisive action against those involved and to ensure proper usage of hospital supplies.

The investigation is ongoing.
