The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have successfully intercepted a shipment of 4,269 assorted swords and knives at Water Quay Port in Freetown.
The seizure occurred during a recent security operation, with authorities managing to confiscate the weapons before they could leave the port. As of now, officials have not revealed the intended destination or purpose of the shipment.
Ongoing investigations aim to trace the origin of the consignment and identify any individuals or groups involved in the importation. This interception has heightened concerns about national security, particularly regarding the risks associated with illegal arms trafficking.
The Sierra Leone Police have reiterated their commitment to monitoring and preventing the spread of illicit weapons within the country. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
