Police Unveils 2026–2028 Budget Proposal of Le 576 Million

Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu expressed his contentment with the budget proposal, which aligns with the SLP’s Strategic Development Plan.

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has officially presented its Mid-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) Budget for 2026–2028, amounting to Le 576,023,180. The presentation took place on Wednesday at the Ministry of Finance Hall on George Street.

During the event, Honourable David Fortune, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, emphasized the critical need for sufficient funding to enhance security services. He noted that financial support is vital for maintaining police operations, which include visibility, emergency response, community engagement, and routine patrols.

Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu expressed his contentment with the budget proposal, which aligns with the SLP’s Strategic Development Plan. He acknowledged the efforts of his team and reiterated that public safety remains the SLP’s foremost priority. He called for government backing to facilitate the budget’s effective implementation.

ACP Alieu Turay, Director of Support Services, identified security as a fundamental element of national development. He outlined several key objectives for 2026, which include the rehabilitation and upgrade of the SLP Headquarters, the recruitment of 1,000 new officers, the acquisition of 35 4×4 vehicles for enhanced nationwide patrols, modernization of the police garment factory, and the provision of camouflage uniforms for the Operations Support Division (OSD).

Mr. Jah, Director of Budget Services, praised the comprehensive nature of the budget presentation and assured stakeholders of its careful review. Representatives from various sectors—including financial analysts, civil society organizations, NGOs, and the media—expressed their support for the SLP’s funding request.

The SLP reiterated that adequate financing is crucial for effective policing, the maintenance of law and order, and the protection of human rights, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Sierra Leone.
