President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has been crowned “Tuioataga,” or King, by the residents of Magiagi village in Samoa. This prestigious title was conferred during his visit to the village for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
Magiagi village, which symbolically represented Sierra Leone at the Commonwealth meeting, warmly welcomed President Bio. The village chief, Faatasi Puleiata, along with the community, expressed their deep respect for the President and admiration for Sierra Leone.
“I am truly elated to receive this huge honor,” President Bio stated, expressing his gratitude for the unique recognition. He emphasized his commitment to strengthening the bond between Sierra Leone and Magiagi village, referring to the village as “a piece of Sierra Leone in Samoa.”
The crowning ceremony was steeped in Samoan tradition, featuring the presentation of title sticks by village chiefs and the ceremonial preparation of kava, a traditional beverage. Chief Luafau Aimaasu formally declared President Bio as “Tuioataga,” signifying his esteemed status within the village and the broader Samoan community.
