On Sierra Leone’s Armed Forces Day, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio honored the nation’s military while reflecting on his own pivotal role within it. A former officer in the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), President Bio marked the occasion with a deeply personal tribute to the men and women in uniform.

In his speech, Bio expressed immense pride for those dedicated to serving the country, particularly those who, like him, made the conscious decision to stand behind the flag and defend the homeland. “On this day, we celebrate those who made the bold decision to dedicate themselves fully to serving our country, Sierra Leone,” the President declared. “We honor those who have stood by our flag and committed to defending our homeland.”

His message extended beyond honoring others; Bio acknowledged the military’s profound influence on his own life. As someone who rose through the ranks, he provided insight into how his military service has shaped both his leadership and values. “The military has played a critical role in shaping the person I am today,” he reflected.

With a deep sense of gratitude, Bio dedicated the day to those who continue to serve, as well as to veterans and fallen heroes who sacrificed for the nation. “As we celebrate Armed Forces Day, let us salute our serving members, veterans, and fallen heroes,” he emphasized, underscoring the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by those who defend Sierra Leone.
