Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, September 16, 2025 — President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, currently serving as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority, was warmly welcomed by Burkinabé Head of State Captain Ibrahim Traoré upon his arrival at Ouagadougou International Airport for a one-day working visit.
During this visit, President Bio is set to engage in a bilateral meeting with Captain Traoré, where the two leaders will discuss strategies to enhance cooperation between ECOWAS and African Economic and Monetary Union (AES) member countries. Key topics will include regional security challenges and initiatives to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso.
Notably, President Bio’s visit marks a historic moment as he becomes the first Chair of the ECOWAS Authority to visit an AES member state since the establishment of the AES, underscoring his dedication to fostering closer ties between the two organizations.
In August, while serving as President of the United Nations Security Council, President Bio visited Burkina Faso, allowing him to gain firsthand insight into the country’s security landscape and engage in broader discussions on issues impacting the Sahel region.
