Brussels, Belgium, Monday, June 23, 2025 — President Dr. Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has arrived in Brussels ahead of the Global Health Summit scheduled for June 25, co-hosted by the European Union, the Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

The summit, themed “Global Summit: Health and Prosperity through Immunisation,” aims to secure at least $9 billion from donors to support Gavi’s ambitious plan to protect 500 million children and save 8 million lives between 2026 and 2030. The initiative also focuses on preparing the world against pandemics and addressing the impacts of conflict, climate change, and other global crises.

During the summit, President Bio is expected to deliver a keynote speech and engage in multiple bilateral meetings.

Gavi has been a crucial partner in strengthening Sierra Leone’s health sector, providing essential support for routine immunization programs, cold chain infrastructure, COVID-19 vaccine access, and the recent deployment of Mpox vaccines.

This summit presents a vital opportunity for President Bio to forge strategic partnerships, advocate for Sierra Leone’s health priorities, and secure support to enhance healthcare infrastructure and early warning systems—ultimately improving the well-being of Sierra Leone’s citizens.
