His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio visited the Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) booth at the Salon Civic Festival, where he reaffirmed his administration’s strong backing for the ongoing national census initiative. The government has allocated approximately $20.8 million to support the 2024 census, including $17 million dedicated to procurement and $3.8 million for direct fiscal assistance.
During his visit, President Bio was briefed by Statistician General Andrew Bob Johnny, who provided updates on the census’s progress. This includes the pilot census that began on December 1, 2025, as well as the successful completion of the first phase of cartographic mapping and details regarding the official census launch.
The President expressed his satisfaction with the developments thus far, commending Stats SL for the “brilliant job” they have done, particularly in promoting inclusivity throughout the census process. He reiterated his government’s commitment to supporting the initiative as it moves forward.
