On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, President Julius Maada Bio officially welcomed three distinguished diplomats at the State House Credential Room, marking a significant moment for Sierra Leone’s international relations. The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom, Ms. Josephine Gauld LVO; the High Commissioner of The Gambia, Madam Claudiana A. Cole; and the Ambassador of the European Union, Jacek Jankowski, each presented their letters of credence, signaling a renewed commitment to enhancing bilateral ties.
Ambassador Jankowski extended congratulations from the European Commission, expressing readiness to collaborate on developmental initiatives. He emphasized the historical strength of the EU-Sierra Leone relationship, pledging continued cooperation in key areas. High Commissioner Cole conveyed warm regards from President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, promising to nurture a cooperative relationship rooted in mutual respect. Meanwhile, Ms. Gauld congratulated President Bio on Sierra Leone’s recent election as a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to deepening ties in shared interests and global collaboration.
In response, President Bio warmly welcomed the diplomats and accepted their credentials with appreciation. He underscored the importance of Sierra Leone’s strong ties with the UK, The Gambia, and the EU, and reiterated his administration’s dedication to fostering these partnerships for the mutual benefit of all involved.
