FREETOWN, Sierra Leone The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has strongly denied allegations made by Lawyer Yada Hashim Williams, who claimed that a Road Traffic Corps officer solicited a bribe.
In a press release issued on November 11, 2025, the SLRSA characterized Williams’ allegations as false and misleading, asserting that no acts of corruption have been officially reported or substantiated. Following a thorough internal review, the Authority concluded that there was no evidence to support Williams’ claims and urged him to retract his public statements.
The SLRSA explained that the traffic stop in question was conducted legally, as the driver of Williams’ vehicle was found operating an unregistered car, violating Section 3(1) of the Road Traffic Act of 2007. In response to the social media post, the Authority reached out to Williams, formally requesting evidence to back his bribery allegations. To date, no proof has been presented.
The Authority also provided Williams with a receipt for the fine imposed on the unregistered vehicle, reinforcing that the enforcement action was legitimate. Despite this, no supporting evidence for his claims has been forthcoming from Williams.
Reaffirming its commitment to integrity, accountability, and professionalism, the SLRSA emphasized its zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and highlighted the robust mechanisms in place for investigating credible misconduct allegations against its personnel.
The statement cautioned that unverified public allegations could erode public confidence in the Authority and tarnish the reputation of its officers. “The post made by Mr. Williams has the potential to cause reputational harm to the SLRSA,” the release stated.
The Authority has called on Williams to withdraw his unsubstantiated claims and to refrain from making additional assertions that could mislead the public.
