Robbery in Uniform: Four Police Officers Dismissed

By: Lucinda J. Smith

The Sierra Leone Police Force has faced numerous challenges with internal corruption and misconduct in recent years, marked by several high-profile cases of officers engaging in criminal activities. To combat this issue and restore public trust, the force has taken robust measures to hold errant officers accountable.

On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the Police Tribunal convicted four serving police officers of Improper Practice Prejudicial to Good Order and Discipline of the Force. The officers were found guilty in connection with two robbery incidents in Taiama and Kenema in August 2024, following a thorough investigation that exposed a clear breach of police protocols and ethical standards.

The Tribunal has recommended the immediate dismissal of the convicted officers, who will face further criminal investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department South. This decisive action demonstrates a strong commitment to upholding the integrity of the Sierra Leone Police Force and rebuilding public trust. By taking a firm stance against police misconduct, the force aims to ensure justice is served and maintain the highest standards of professionalism.
