RSLAF Launches Five Corporate Bodies to Boost Personnel Welfare and Economic Empowerment

The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has unveiled plans to establish five independent corporate entities designed to enhance the welfare and economic empowerment of its personnel. This initiative reflects the military’s commitment to not only safeguarding national security but also improving the lives of its members.

During a recent press briefing, Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Amara Idara Bangura outlined the vision behind this strategic move. He emphasized that these corporate bodies will function outside the traditional military command structure, facilitating greater flexibility and efficiency in managing various business ventures.

The new entities will target key sectors such as agriculture, road construction, and entrepreneurship, marking a significant shift in the RSLAF’s approach to national development. In the agricultural domain, General Bangura announced an ambitious project involving a 1,000-hectare cashew farm located in Port Loko. The military aims to position itself as the leading producer of cashew nuts in Sierra Leone by 2026, while also striving for self-sufficiency in rice production.

In addition to agricultural initiatives, the RSLAF is proactively engaging in road infrastructure projects. The military is currently bidding for contracts to construct feeder roads linking Mile 91 to Buedu and Koindu, alongside internal road improvements within military barracks.

Through these initiatives, the RSLAF seeks to empower its personnel economically while contributing to the broader development goals of the nation. This commitment to dual roles—national defense and community enhancement—positions the armed forces as a pivotal player in Sierra Leone’s growth and prosperity.
