The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has announced a nationwide initiative to tackle the growing issue of unpaid water bills among individuals and institutions. The company reports a significant rise in outstanding debts, which poses a risk to operational efficiency and cash flow.

To combat this challenge, SALWACO’s leadership has pledged to enforce disconnections and enhance revenue collection efforts.

Managing Director Ing. George Lamin Vandi emphasized the need for all debtors to be held accountable, urging compliance with the company’s payment policies. Previous communications have been sent to those owing debts, stressing the importance of timely payments.

During its recent general retreat, themed “Revenue Generation for Sustainable Development,” SALWACO focused on strategic management and effective debt collection methods to better mobilize resources in alignment with the company’s goals.

This decisive action aims to ensure the financial sustainability of SALWACO. Achieving full debt recovery from all customers would mark a significant milestone towards the company’s financial independence.

To facilitate the implementation of these debt collection strategies, SALWACO has directed all employees to engage in vigorous revenue collection efforts and marketing initiatives, as well as to foster stakeholder relationships. The goal is to significantly reduce, if not eliminate, the problem of outstanding debts.
