Madam Musayeroh Barrie, the Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), has played a crucial role in enhancing aviation cooperation between Sierra Leone and Egypt during President Julius Maada Bio’s three-day state visit to Cairo, which took place from March 26, 2025.
This significant visit reflects the commitment of both nations to forge stronger diplomatic and economic relationships, with a particular emphasis on the aviation sector as a vital area for collaboration.
As part of the delegation alongside President Bio, Madam Barrie engaged in productive discussions with leading aviation figures, including Capt. Sameh El Hefny, President of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, and Amr Adawy, Head of Commercial for EgyptAir. Described as promising and forward-looking, these talks centered on improving aviation connectivity between the two countries.
Highlighting the importance of these negotiations, Madam Barrie noted that discussions with EgyptAir for establishing direct flights between Freetown and Cairo are progressing well. She stated that such an initiative would not only enhance air travel convenience but also stimulate trade and tourism between Sierra Leone and Egypt.
“This partnership with EgyptAir represents a significant advancement for Sierra Leone’s aviation sector,” Madam Barrie articulated. “It aligns with our broader vision to enhance global connectivity and attract international investments.” Her engagements with EgyptAir and the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority date back to December 2024, emphasizing her sustained commitment to nurturing robust ties between the two nations.
The recent dialogues in Cairo have further solidified this partnership, paving the way for increased technical exchanges, aviation training opportunities, and collaborative air transport projects. Under Madam Barrie’s leadership, the SLCAA has experienced considerable reforms, modernizing Sierra Leone’s air transport infrastructure to meet international standards. Key initiatives include the renovation of airports, enhancement of air traffic control systems, and creation of regulatory frameworks aimed at positioning Sierra Leone as a competitive player in regional aviation.
Moreover, her efforts have extended beyond Egypt, with the successful hosting of aviation forums in Sierra Leone featuring Egyptian experts, indicative of the growing professional and diplomatic rapport between both nations.
Madam Barrie’s contributions towards bolstering Sierra Leone’s aviation sector underscore her commitment and expertise.
