By: Joseph Momoh, Reporter, D.S

Sierra Leone and Guinea have submitted legal, administrative, and cartographic documents to clarify their land and maritime boundaries, with support from the German Cooperation through GIZ under the African Union Border Program (AUBP).

The documentation was presented during the Third Joint Technical Commission meetings held in Kailahun District from March 23 to 30, 2025, aimed at strengthening the existing border between the two nations. Mr. Francis Langumba Keili, who led Sierra Leone’s delegation, and Mr. Moriba Magassouba, who led Guinea’s delegation, emphasized their commitment to fostering regional peace and cooperation.

This initiative follows recommendations from a joint awareness mission conducted in late 2024. Facilitator Mr. Saa David Leno expressed satisfaction with the collaborative efforts of both nations and highlighted the importance of reaffirming borders in maintaining stability. The countries have agreed to convene the fourth meeting in Guinea before mid-2025 to continue the progress.
