Sierra Leone recorded a total of 306,057 live births in 2025, according to a provisional report released by the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) for the year ending December 31, 2025. The data reveals that females comprised 51% of the births, while males accounted for 49%.
In detail, the report shows that there were 149,968 male births and 156,089 female births, resulting in a sex ratio of 96 males for every 100 females.
Additionally, the report documented 3,739 stillbirths and a total of 17,905 deaths during the year. Of these, 10,280 (57%) were males, and 7,625 (43%) were females. Notably, the data indicates that the majority of deaths occurred in individuals aged 60 and above, representing 32% of total fatalities. Children aged 0–4 years contributed to 15% of the recorded deaths in 2025.
The NCRA also reported 160 adoption cases throughout the country in 2025. Among these, 61 adoptions (38%) involved males, while 99 (62%) involved females.
The figures provided by the NCRA are provisional and compiled in accordance with the National Civil Registration Act of 2016. The authority expressed gratitude to various institutions and organizations that contributed to the recording of these vital statistics.
The NCRA encouraged all citizens and foreign residents to register their births (both live and still), deaths, marriages, divorces, adoptions, and related events promptly to maintain an accurate population record for Sierra Leone.
