Sierra Leonean Citizens Remain Ineligible for Diversity Visas Under Current U.S. Presidential Proclamation

The Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) has confirmed that all available Diversity Visa (DV) appointments for the 2025 fiscal year have been scheduled for Sierra Leonean applicants and third-country nationals seeking interviews at the U.S. Embassy in Freetown.

In a recent update, the KCC indicated that individuals who have not yet received appointment notices will not be scheduled for interviews this fiscal year. The center expressed gratitude to all applicants for their interest and encouraged them to consider reapplying in future lottery programs.

The Diversity Visa Program, often referred to as the “Green Card Lottery,” allocates up to 55,000 immigrant visas annually to individuals from countries with historically low immigration rates to the United States. However, eligibility can be impacted by changes in U.S. immigration policy, including presidential directives.

As a result, Sierra Leoneans selected in the FY2025 DV Lottery will not receive visas, even if their applications were processed or scheduled for interviews outside of Sierra Leone.
