The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) is on the verge of adopting a new constitution, a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and resilience within the organization. This development emerges from their Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bo City, Southern Sierra Leone, themed “Charting the Way Forward: New Constitution for Inclusive and Stronger SLAJ”.
SLAJ President, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, emphasized the crucial role of inclusion, stating, “Inclusion is not just a slogan; it is a cornerstone of progress…for our association to remain relevant and resilient”. He highlighted the need to engage journalists from marginalized communities, women in journalism, and those in rural areas.
Founded in 1971, SLAJ has championed journalists’ protection and free speech for over 50 years. The AGM, concluding on September 28, features esteemed speakers, including former PPRC Chairman and Supreme Court Judge Abdulai Masiyambay Bangurah.
However, some journalists have raised concerns about the presence of Bar Association President Tuma Gento Kamara, citing disagreements over her presidency within the legal community.
