The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) and the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau (SLSB) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at improving the quality assurance and safety standards for imported vehicle spare parts. This collaboration represents a significant advancement in enhancing road safety, minimizing preventable accidents, and promoting national development through elevated standards within the automotive sector.

As the regulatory body overseeing road safety, vehicle registration, driver licensing, and vehicle inspections, the SLRSA has joined forces with the SLSB, which is responsible for the standardization and quality control of products and services in the country.

James Bagie Bio, Executive Director of the SLRSA, highlighted the partnership’s importance, stating, “This collaboration will reinforce quality control measures and ensure strict compliance protocols for vehicle spare parts importers. Our goal is to guarantee that all spare parts meet established safety and performance standards. This partnership emphasizes our commitment to saving lives and enhancing transportation services throughout Sierra Leone.”

Bio further noted that aligning local regulations with international quality standards will not only bolster consumer safety but also instill confidence in the automotive industry, fostering sustainable growth.

Dr. John Paul Kaisam, Executive Director of the SLSB, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the Bureau’s dedication to creating a safer and more effective transportation system through standardization. “Ensuring the quality of vehicle spare parts is vital in reducing road hazards and supporting sustainable national development. This partnership aligns with our broader vision of transforming Sierra Leone into a safer and more resilient nation,” Kaisam remarked.

The initiative will encompass joint inspections, certification processes, awareness campaigns targeting both importers and consumers, and the enforcement of stringent importation guidelines to ensure that only compliant spare parts enter the Sierra Leonean market. Both institutions reiterated their commitment to a safer road network, a robust automotive industry, and a healthier population, all supported by rigorous quality assurance and regulatory oversight.
