The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has announced a comprehensive set of measures aimed at enhancing road safety and improving service delivery across the nation. These initiatives will take effect on Monday, August 4, 2025.
In a recent public announcement, the SLRSA revealed the launch of a Mobile Station designed to provide road safety services closer to the community. This mobile unit will facilitate efficient access to essential services at various locations throughout the country.
To streamline payment processes for these services, the SLRSA has collaborated with WANGOV, a digital payment platform. Representatives from WANGOV will be stationed at the mobile unit to ensure quick and convenient payment options for users.
In addition to these enhancements, the Authority will enforce Regulation 55 (6) of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2011. This regulation mandates that all vehicles must be equipped with essential safety gear, including a First Aid Kit. This requirement will apply to all new vehicle registrations, with the necessary equipment available for purchase.
Vehicle owners are required to comply with these new safety standards by October 1, 2025. The SLRSA reiterated that these measures are part of its commitment to safeguarding lives and promoting road safety across Sierra Leone. “Ignorance of the law is no excuse,” the announcement emphasized, highlighting the responsibility of both authorities and the public in ensuring safe road practices.
For further inquiries, the public can reach the SLRSA Public Relations Unit at 076-858-635, 075-197-896, or 031-112-323. Additionally, the SLRSA reminded vehicle owners of their obligation under Section 70 of the Road Traffic Act, 2007, to utilize Vehicle Testing Centres. All vehicles must undergo a Motor Vehicle Testing (MOT) to verify roadworthiness before licensing, a service that will be provided at no extra cost.
Furthermore, effective September 1, 2025, the SLRSA will require all applicants registering a motor vehicle to present a Title of Ownership from the country of origin as proof of legitimate ownership, aligning with Regulation 2 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulations.
