Hundreds of participants gathered on Saturday for the Rainbo Initiative’s Solidarity Walk, a powerful demonstration of support for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). This event, part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, underscored calls for the protection and empowerment of women and girls across Sierra Leone.
This year’s theme for the campaign is “UNITE to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls,” reflecting the urgent need to address all forms of gender-based violence in today’s digital age.
Participants included representatives from various organizations such as Save the Children International (SCI), SEND Sierra Leone, PPASL, IREP, and the Ministry of Gender, along with community groups, teachers, individuals with disabilities, and survivors. Together, they delivered powerful messages highlighting the increasing threat of digital violence and the critical need for robust prevention measures, improved response systems, and ongoing community engagement.
The Rainbo Initiative expressed gratitude to all supporters, emphasizing that such solidarity sends a strong message to survivors that they are not alone in their struggles. The organization also acknowledged the contributions of sponsors and partners that made the event possible.
“Together, we are building a stronger, safer, and more compassionate Sierra Leone,” the organizers stated, affirming that their campaign against SGBV will persist until the issue is eradicated.
